While the outpouring of aid nationally and internationally continues, two 溏心vlog免费B站 faculty members from the island nation say that support from their American friends and colleagues is appreciated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As educators, both immediately thought of the children and families affected and the larger impact of the storm\u2019s disruption to life there.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"754\" height=\"1015\" src=\"https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/news\/sites\/16\/2025\/12\/school-after.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-105878\" style=\"width:320px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/news\/sites\/16\/2025\/12\/school-after.jpg 754w, https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/news\/sites\/16\/2025\/12\/school-after-223x300.jpg 223w, https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/news\/sites\/16\/2025\/12\/school-after-364x490.jpg 364w, https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/news\/sites\/16\/2025\/12\/school-after-500x673.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 754px) 100vw, 754px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Two 溏心vlog免费B站 faculty from the island nation are joining efforts to help their home country recover, including a drive in the college to collect teaching and learning aids to help the school replenish and a Letter of Love effort. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>School support: Helping a pre-K in Jamaica with hurricane recovery<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/education\/meet\/kayon-murray-johnson\/\">Kayon Murray-Johnson<\/a> is leading efforts in the Feinstein College of Education to gather supplies for one pre-K school in Jamaica so students there can rebuild and focus on a positive return to learning in the new year. The DRB Grant School has seen 160 students displaced and all school supplies and furniture upended. \u201cThe damage is horrendous,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DRB Grant is one of several hard-hit schools in Montego Bay, in the heart of the community where Murray-Johnson grew up and lived for many years. The school is particularly important in the community as a \u201cdemonstration school,\u201d where teachers go to train to gain best practices and insights. All donations are welcome, including: white board and permanent markers, all colors; paper clips; blocks (plastic and wood); pens; puzzles and storybooks (ages 3-6); masking tape; construction sheets; pencils; crayons; toys; scissors (children and adult); staplers and staples; and charts \u2013 alphabet, numbers, days\/weeks, months\/year, colors, shapes, body parts, etc. Items can be dropped off at the dean\u2019s office in Chafee Hall (room 217). Those who may have questions or are interested in helping in another way may contact Murray-Johnson at <a href=\"mailto:k_murray@uri.edu\">k_murray@uri.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Letters of Love<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to sending classroom donations, Murray-Johnson\u2019s colleague <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/education\/meet\/tashal-brown\/\">Tashal Brown<\/a> is sharing a letter-writing initiative that will extend into the new year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brown has invited colleagues to join a \u201cLetter of Love\u201d initiative. This is just one personal effort to help one 溏心vlog免费B站 community member&#8217;s community back home, out of many, she says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhile the outpouring of love nationally and internationally continues, the importance of a kind word cannot be overstated. That\u2019s why this initiative has been launched.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1fn-ZykuAWsX2oDjMAe7KmdI-9nP4I7KtZGJH86bRUtQ\/edit?tab=t.0\">Letter of Love initiative<\/a> encourages handwritten letters to Jamaicans impacted by Hurricane Melissa to encourage faith in the rebuilding process, promote positive vibes, dispel hopelessness, and to offer solidarity to all affected. Letters will be accepted through June 2026 and can be written to Jamaicans of all walks of life.
