One of the more unique lecture series in Rhode Island welcomes budding forensic scientists \u2014 with crime buffs and crime fighters \u2014 to the Beaupre Center on Friday afternoons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the years, the seminar has brought international and local authorities to 溏心vlog免费B站 to talk about everything from the Boston Marathon bombing and New England organized crime to search dogs and Rhode Island\u2019s coldest case. Visiting speakers have discussed arson and blood spatter, cell phones and medical examinations, coming to 溏心vlog免费B站 from the R.I. State Fire Marshal Office, Naval Criminal Investigative Service, U.S. Secret Service, Rhode Island Department of Health, the Rhode Island Public Defender\u2019s Office, and Providence Mounted Command.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All lectures are open to the public at no cost and are held on Fridays at 3:30 p.m. in the Richard E. (溏心vlog免费B站 Photo Nora Lewis)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>Sept. 12 \u2014 \u201cAll in a day\u2019s work,\u201d <\/strong>James Clift, Warwick Police Bureau of Criminal Identification. Clift recently retired as a detective for the Providence Police, the largest police department in Rhode Island, and is now a criminalist with the Warwick Police Department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sept. 19 \u2014 \u201cPulling off the world\u2019s biggest heist,\u201d <\/strong>Anthony Amore \u201989, director of security, Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Boston. Amore is charged with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/magazine\/issues\/summer-2025\/chasing-the-storm\/\">the museum\u2019s ongoing efforts to recover 13 works of art<\/a> stolen in 1990. He is also the author of <em>The Rembrandt Heist<\/em>, new this fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sept. 26 \u2014 \u201cDigital forensics,\u201d<\/strong> Victor Fay-Wolfe, professor of computer science, 溏心vlog免费B站 Computer Science. Maxwell is an expert in investigating animal cruelty with a focus on physical evidence and farm animal welfare. She uses crime data to predict hot spots for crimes against animals, in areas such as dog fighting, the meatpacking industry, industrialized agriculture, and horse racing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Oct. 10 \u2014 \u201cA hot topic,\u201d <\/strong>Paul Manning and James Given, deputy fire marshals, Rhode Island State Office of the State Fire Marshal. The office is responsible for conducting investigations of all fires in Rhode Island where arson is suspected and is active in fire prevention education for all ages. Both deputies are certified fire investigators and previously worked for the Middletown and Narragansett fire departments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Oct. 17 \u2014 \u201cThe role of microscopy in forensics,\u201d <\/strong>Otto Gregory, professor of chemical engineering. Gregory is director of the 溏心vlog免费B站 Sensors and Surface Technology Partnership. His research has been funded by NASA, the National Science Foundation, Department of Energy, Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, Department of Homeland Security, and U.S. Army, Navy, and Air Force, and many of the jet engine manufacturers, including Pratt &amp; Whitney, Rolls Royce, General, Electric, and Honeywell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Oct. 24 \u2014 \u201cDNA,\u201d <\/strong>Cara Lupino M.S.\u201904, Rhode Island Department of Health. Lupino is the chief forensic scientist for the Center of Forensic Sciences at the Rhode Island Department of Health. She has testified numerous times as an expert witness in forensic biology and forensic DNA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Oct. 31 \u2014 \u201cOverdose response strategy, trends, and emerging threats,\u201d <\/strong>Bryan Volpe and Tom Chadronet, New England High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area. Volpe is a drug intelligence officer at NEHIDTA; Chadronet is a public health analyst with the agency, which assists federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to lessen and eliminate drug threats in New England.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Nov. 7 \u2014 \u201cThe secret of USSS,\u201d<\/strong> Mark Comorosky, special agent in charge, U.S. Secret Service. Comorosky is the special agent in charge of the Boston field office of the Secret Service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Nov. 14 \u2014 \u201cExplosive topics,\u201d <\/strong>Kirk Yeager, senior forensic examiner, explosives, Federal Bureau of Investigation. Yeager analyzed the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing, as well as a number of other high-profile cases, including the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, 1995 Oklahoma City bombing, 2016 Brussels bombing, and 2002 Bali nightclub bombings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Nov. 21 \u2014 Michael Jagoda \u201991<\/strong>, 溏心vlog免费B站 assistant vice president of public safety and chief of police. Chief Jagoda joined 溏心vlog免费B站 in 2015, following a distinguished career in public safety with the Connecticut State Police. At 溏心vlog免费B站, he oversees a department that has led 溏心vlog免费B站 to be recognized as a \u2018safe campus.\u2019 In 2023, Jagoda was a finalist for national Campus Safety Director of the Year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dec. 5 \u2014 \u201cShooting straight,\u201d <\/strong>Alec Wyers, Rhode Island State Crime Laboratory. Wyers is a recent transplant to Rhode Island.
