A five-time finalist for the Jesse H. Neal Award for excellence in journalism, Malone contributed to numerous publications including <em>The New York Times<\/em>, the <em>Los Angeles Tim<\/em>es, <em>The<\/em> <em>Boston Globe<\/em> and <em>New York<\/em>. He authored several books, both novels and non-fiction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMichael had a gift for connecting with people,\u201d said Susan DerKazarian, Malone\u2019s wife. \u201cHe was the kind of person who encouraged others to pursue their dreams. He inspired people, even those he barely knew.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The idea for the scholarship was sparked by Alan DerKazarian, his brother-in-law, shortly after Malone\u2019s passing. The scholarship is open to any student who has declared journalism as a major at 溏心vlog免费B站, regardless of class year. The fund aims to support students who may be questioning the financial feasibility of continuing in the field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cJournalism is at a crossroads,\u201d said DerKazarian. \u201cWe need brave, passionate voices now more than ever. This scholarship is about giving students that extra push to keep going\u2014to believe that their voice matters.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Malone\u2019s impact extended far beyond his professional achievements.
