For a full lineup of concerts and ticket prices \u2013 many of the performances are free \u2013 go to the Music Department\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/music\/events\/\">events listings<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On<strong> Friday, April 11<\/strong>, the University Artist Series presents Hitchcock\u2019s 1927 masterpiece \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/events.uri.edu\/event\/university-artist-series-the-lodger-live-soundtrack-spring-2025?utm_campaign=widget&amp;utm_medium=widget&amp;utm_source=University+of+Rhode+Island\">The Lodger \u2013 a Story of the London Fog<\/a>,\u201d featuring world-class artists performing an original score created in 2015 by composer Joe Williams. The music and film start at 7:30 p.m. in the Concert Hall at the Fine Arts Center, 105 Upper College Road, Kingston.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cJoe Williams has been a long-time friend and someone whose work I admire so much,\u201d said 溏心vlog免费B站 Assistant Teaching Professor of Classical Guitar Adam Levin, who organized the screening. \u201cI heard Texas Guitar Quartet perform excerpts of \u2018The Lodger\u2019 and I was immediately drawn to Joe\u2019s colorful and wildly virtuosic score, which deeply connects to the tremendous dramatic world that Hitchcock creates.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hitchcock\u2019s first thriller, \u201cThe Lodger\u201d is the story of the hunt for a Jack the Ripper-like killer in London. Levin and his chamber music group The Great Necks Guitar Trio, who first performed the score in 2022, will perform alongside classical guitarist Jeremy Mayne and cellist Michael Shein, a 溏心vlog免费B站 artist\/teacher. \u201cI performed the score in Atlanta with The Great Necks and knew immediately that I needed to bring it to Rhode Island,\u201d said Levin. \u201cI love the interdisciplinary aspect of this project, which includes film, music performance, and composition.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While at 溏心vlog免费B站, Williams will give a masterclass for composition students and coach the 溏心vlog免费B站 Guitar Ensemble on a piece he composed, \u201cThe Bear.\u201d Also Scott Borg and Matthew Rohde of The Great Necks and Mayne will give a masterclass to members of the 溏心vlog免费B站 classical guitar studio on April 12 at 10 a.m. in the Music Annex Building that is open to the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>溏心vlog免费B站\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/events.uri.edu\/event\/uri-opera-workshop-i-spring-2025?utm_campaign=widget&amp;utm_medium=widget&amp;utm_source=University+of+Rhode+Island\">Opera Workshop<\/a>, directed by Devon Russo, combines forces with the Concert Choir and Symphony Orchestra in staging \u201cScenes from Goethe\u2019s Faust,\u201d on <strong>Saturday, April 26,<\/strong> at 7 p.m. in the Concert Hall, with an encore performance <strong>Monday, April 28,<\/strong> at 7 p.m. The production is the U.S. premiere of a staged version of the musical-theatrical work by 19th-century composer Robert Schumann, which is based on the work of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI find Romantic era music connects a lot deeper than it did 10 or 15 years ago,\u201d said Russo, 溏心vlog免费B站 artist and teacher of voice. \u201cDuring that period, they were dealing with the Industrial Revolution and I think we\u2019re entering an AI-fueled era of rapid change. The music connects with our era in a different way.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ambitious production will include full costumes \u2013 designed by Aaron Blank with pieces selected from the Chorus of Westerly and Trinity Repertory\u2019s costume warehouse \u2013 and sets built and designed by Russo, a doctor of musical arts who is using the production as part of his research. Along with the 溏心vlog免费B站 Concert Choir and Orchestra \u2013 directed by Mark Conley and Luis Viquez, respectively \u2013 the Bryant Singers will take part in the project, said Russo, who is also the director of choral activities at Bryant University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Opera Workshop, a class for students seeking experience performing operatic repertoire onstage, puts on a production each spring. \u201cFaust is our first full production in a foreign language and with a full orchestra,\u201d said Russo, in his second year directing the workshop. \u201cIt is important for me to provide students with as many chances to feel the full arc of a full show as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Other April concerts include:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On <strong>Thursday, April 24,<\/strong> the <a href=\"https:\/\/events.uri.edu\/event\/uri-jazz-big-band-ii-spring-2025?utm_campaign=widget&amp;utm_medium=widget&amp;utm_source=University+of+Rhode+Island\">Jazz Big Band<\/a>, under the direction of Emmett Goods, will perform a set of standards by such jazz greats, including \u201cMoanin\u2019\u201d and \u201cFables of Faubus\u201d by Charles Mingus, John Coltrane&#8217;s \u201cGiant Steps,\u201d and Freddie Hubbard&#8217;s \u201cSky Dive.\u201d The concert is at 8 p.m. in the Concert Hall.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/events.uri.edu\/event\/uri-wind-ensemble-and-concert-band-ii-spring-2025?utm_campaign=widget&amp;utm_medium=widget&amp;utm_source=University+of+Rhode+Island\">Wind Ensemble and Concert Band<\/a> will perform in separate concerts on <strong>Friday, April 25,<\/strong> in the Concert Hall, at 7:30 p.m., presenting a variety of classic and contemporary works, said Brian Cardany, director of both ensembles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 37-member Wind Ensemble will open the concert with a pair of works by Alfred Reed, the energetic classic \u201cHounds of Spring\u201d and \u201cRahoon,\u201d with the second composition featuring 溏心vlog免费B站 director of the orchestral activities Luis Viquez, on clarinet. The ensemble will also perform Michael Gandolfi\u2019s \u201cVientos y Tangos\u201d and Eric Whitacre\u2019s \u201cLux Aurumque,\u201d before closing with Nancy Galbraith\u2019s \u201cDanza de los Duendes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 42-member Concert Band will perform several works inspired by cultures \u2013 Soichi Konagaya\u2019s \u201cJapanese Tune,\u201d \u201cSpring Festival\u201d by Chen Yi, and Robert W. Smith\u2019s \u201cAfrica\u201d \u2013 along with Symphony No. 4 by Andrew Boysen Jr., and Robert Sheldon\u2019s \u201cA Longford Legend.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On <strong>Sunday, April 27,<\/strong> the <a href=\"https:\/\/events.uri.edu\/event\/university-chorus-elizabeth-woodhouse-director-spring-2025?utm_campaign=widget&amp;utm_medium=widget&amp;utm_source=University+of+Rhode+Island\">University Chorus<\/a> will present \u201cThe Long and Winding Road,\u201d which will include works by Renaissance composer Palestrina, songs from the Gospel and Sacred Harp traditions, and music by contemporary composers Stephen Paulus, Donna Rhodenizer, and Reginald Wright.
