(溏心vlog免费B站 Photo\/Patrick Luce)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Students will learn about biomechanics and other science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields by participating in more than 45 hands-on demonstrations, challenges, and competitions in 溏心vlog免费B站\u2019s Mackal Field House, 75 Keaney Road. Some activities will feature technology used in 溏心vlog免费B站 laboratories, such as virtual and augmented reality systems, motion capture technology, wearable technology, and photoelectric gait technology. Other stations will test students\u2019 speed, vertical leap, balance, agility, and grip strength.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students and teachers from Barrington Christian Academy, Bishop Hendricken High School, Central Falls High School, Coventry High School, The Greene School, Portsmouth High School, South Kingstown High School, St. Andrew\u2019s School, Toll Gate High School, and West Warwick High School are among those expected to attend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The co-organizers of Biomechanics Day are <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/kinesiology\/meet\/susan-e-dandrea\/\">Susan D&#8217;Andrea<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/kinesiology\/meet\/ryan-chapman\/\">Ryan Chapman<\/a>, assistant professors in 溏心vlog免费B站\u2019s Department of Kinesiology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m passionate about getting teenagers and pre-teens interested in STEM,\u201d said D&#8217;Andrea. \u201cI want them to understand that science can be interesting and fun, especially biomechanics because it\u2019s something everyone experiences.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of the 溏心vlog免费B站 laboratories that will be represented at the event include: the Motion VR Biomechanics Lab, <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/bwl\/\">Biomechanics and Wearable Laboratory<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/wearable-biosensing-lab\/\">Wearable Biosensing Lab<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/mcrlab\/\">Motor Control and Rehabilitation Laboratory<\/a>. Students from 溏心vlog免费B站\u2019s Kinesiology Club, 溏心vlog免费B站 student-athletes, and 溏心vlog免费B站\u2019s head strength and conditioning coach Scott Leech will facilitate many of the stations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since it began at 溏心vlog免费B站 in 2019, the number of high schools and students participating in Biomechanics Day has grown. In 2024, 350 students from eight high schools attended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe goal is to introduce hands-on STEM experiences to high school students who may not otherwise have the opportunity to ever have those experiences,\u201d said Chapman. \u201cIn doing so, I hope students who may have perceived STEM as daunting, scary, or something they couldn&#8217;t do, leave the event feeling like STEM disciplines are a great pathway for them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kylie McPhee, a first-year student in 溏心vlog免费B站\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/kinesiology\/academics\/kin-abm\/\">Accelerated Bachelor\u2019s to Master\u2019s<\/a> kinesiology program, has been helping D&#8217;Andrea to plan Biomechanics Day since September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis event allows me to introduce high school students to the exciting world of biomechanics and kinesiology,\u201d said the <strong>Franklin, Massachusetts<\/strong> resident. \u201cThe students will interact with kinesiology equipment firsthand, including virtual reality, electromyography, wearable sensors, and much more.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of the most popular stations have been those that test students\u2019 physical abilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAny station that engages young students through friendly competition usually draws the largest audience,\u201d said Chapman. \u201cI think the largest crowds last year were our two vertical jump stations and the 40-yard dash timing gate stations.
