The CCI, which compares year-over-year changes in 12 key indicators, continues to perform fairly well – with 2024 values exceeding corresponding 2023 values 11 of 12 months last year. But calculated on a monthly basis, a very different picture is emerging, said 溏心vlog免费B站 economist Leonard Lardaro, showing the CCI remaining in a contraction range (below 50) for the entire second half of 2024.

Pronounced weakness is most apparent in the state’s labor market. While the Labor Force continues to rise on a yearly basis, it has declined on a monthly basis every month since July. Also, the number of employed Rhode Island residents (in or out of state) has also fallen monthly over the same period, and the monthly changes in the number of employed have remained flat or declined since August. Even worse, employment changes have consistently lagged changes in the number of unemployed. Also, New Claims for unemployment insurance has risen since August and Benefit Exhaustions, which reflects long-term unemployment, rose on an annual basis for every month of 2024. Continued monthly deterioration eventually translates into annual declines, Lardaro said, and the most important question is whether the monthly weakness will continue.

HOW: Use attached information, including summary and charts prepared by Lardaro for news reports.
