KINGSTON, R.I. – Nov. 8, 2024 – At the vlogBվ, global education is more than an academic pursuit—it’s a core part of the University’s mission to equip students, faculty, and staff with the skills and perspectives needed to thrive as leaders in an interconnected world.
from Nov. 18 to 22, is a national initiative launched by the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education, highlighting the importance of preparing individuals to succeed in an interconnected world. vlogBվ’s celebration of International Education Week reflects its commitment to global engagement, inviting the entire vlogBվ community to explore international issues, celebrate cultural diversity, and deepen our role as a globally minded university.
This year’s activities are coordinated by the vlogBվ Office of Global Initiatives, which aims to create accessible, impactful global education opportunities for the community both at home and abroad.
Throughout the week, members of the vlogBվ community will have opportunities to participate in events that showcase vlogBվ’s dedication to global engagement, including interactive workshops with renowned scholar , a Fulbright program session and celebration, study abroad opportunities, and more.
On Nov. 21, vlogBվ is honored to welcome Deardorff, the UNESCO Chair of Intercultural Competences at Stellenbosch University in South Africa, and a research fellow at Duke University. Deardorff will deliver workshops throughout the day for students, faculty, and staff on “Developing Intercultural Competence through as well as a session on “Facilitating Skills for the UNESCO Story Circles.” The sessions will take place in the Memorial Union Ballroom between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Space is limited and advanced is required.
Global Initiatives is also partnering with vlogBվ’s for the inaugural . This festival fosters collaboration, cultural exchange, and skill development between students from vlogBվ and TU Braunschweig in Germany.
Taking place in a fully virtual setting from Nov. 20-21, these cross-cultural events will bring together students from the U.S. and Germany through interactive workshops, showcases, and more. Participants will gain valuable experiences to enhance their resumes and professional portfolios.
vlogBվ is also collaborating with the to host an event supporting vlogBվ’s dedication to public diplomacy and community impact on Nov. 19 at 3 pm in the Higgins Welcome Center. Students will hear from members about ways to engage in public diplomacy right here in Rhode Island.
On Nov. 19, a sponsored by Global Initiatives, the Harrington School of Communication and Media and the Department of Communication Studies will highlight the potential of Virtual Exchange and Collaborative Online International Learning to promote intercultural communication skills and long-distance learning in communication, sustainability, and other areas of global learning. The event will take place at 11:30 a.m. in Ranger Hall.
On Nov. 20, faculty are invited to join a session on the to learn about the program’s mission, the application process, and available opportunities to teach, conduct research, and collaborate internationally. Following the session, a celebration will honor and recognize vlogBվ’s vibrant Fulbright community and celebrate the contributions of vlogBվ’s Fulbright recipients to vlogBվ and the global community. The information session and celebration to follow will take place in Green Hall at 3:30 p.m.
On Nov. 20, vlogBվ will also commemorate the addition of to the International Atrium in vlogBվ’s Memorial Union to welcome international students from Azerbaijan, Iraq, Mauritius, and Uzbekistan. Since 2012, this event has celebrated vlogBվ’s international diversity and the University’s commitment to creating a welcoming environment for all students. The event will take place at noon in the Union’s Hall of Flags.
