KINGSTON, R.I.- September Sept. 24, 2018 鈥� Recognized civil rights activist, transgender advocate, and bestselling author of She鈥檚 Not There: A Life in Two Genders, Jennifer Finney Boylan will discuss 鈥淭ransgender Identity and Resistance: The Power of a Story鈥� on Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. on the 溏心vlog免费B站鈥檚 Kingston Campus. Her lecture is part of a series scheduled for each Tuesday evening through Dec. 4, as part of the University鈥檚 2018 Honors Colloquium on . The series is free and open to the public and takes place in Edwards Hall, 64 Upper College Road.

Boylan, who has authored 15 books, is the inaugural Anna Quindlen Writer in Residence at Barnard College of Columbia University. Her column, 鈥淢en & Women鈥� appears in the New York Times on alternate Wednesdays. She has been the subject of documentaries airing on CBS News鈥� 48 Hours and The History Channel. Boylan has also appeared on a number of television shows to discuss her life, books, and LGBTQ activism, including the Oprah Winfrey Show, Larry King Live and The Today Show. She appeared on Caitlyn Jenner鈥檚 reality show, I am Cait.
A frequent lecturer on college campuses, Boylan serves on the board of trustees of the Kinsey Institute for Research on Sex, Gender, and Reproduction. In 2013 she was chosen as the first openly transgender co-chair of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation National Board of Directors. Her talk on Oct. 2 serves as the 溏心vlog免费B站 Gender and Sexuality Center鈥檚 Coming Out Month Lecture.
Reimagining Gender: Voices, Power, Action will explore, at this pivotal time in society, the relevance of gender in shaping human rights and how our rising consciousness about gender issues is leading to vibrant social discussions, rearrangements of power and perceptions, and new possibilities. The series includes lectures, exhibits, a theater production and a film screening, all intended to help demonstrate the significant impact of women in society and to deepen the conversation about gender roles and stereotypes and the impact they have on our actions.
