KINGSTON, R.I. – March 27, 2017 – Francesco Bartolucci, professor of statistics at the University of Perugia in Italy, will visit the 溏心vlog免费B站 as part of the Distinguished Visiting International Scholars Program. Bartolucci will give lectures and meet with undergraduates, graduate students and faculty.
At 溏心vlog免费B站 for four days, Bartolucci will give a public lecture April 4 on 溏心vlog免费B站鈥檚 Kingston campus entitled, 鈥淪hedding Light on the Mystery of Data Science: A Statistician鈥檚 View,鈥 at 5:30 p.m. at the Richard E. Beaupre Center for Chemical and Forensic Sciences, room 100 , 140 Flagg Road.
Bartolucci will define data science and statistics and shed light on what falls into each scientific field. He will also use cases to illustrate how data science and statistics have failed to predict the results of the presidential election in the United States or the United Kingdom鈥檚 vote to withdraw from the European Union.
On April 5, Bartolucci will participate in a workshop on 鈥淪tatistical Analysis of Questionnaires: A Unified Approach in R,鈥 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Ballentine Hall computer laboratory, 7 Lippitt Road on the Kingston campus. The workshop is free but registration is required due to a limited number of seats. 鈥淩鈥 is a statistical software, and the workshop aims to illustrate the basic theory of Item Response Theory (IRT) models.
On April 7, Bartolucci will give a technical talk, 鈥淟atent Markov Models for Longitudinal Data,鈥 at 11 a.m. in the College of Pharmacy building, 7 Greenhouse Road, Kingston Campus, room 130. This talk is open to the public.
Bartolucci obtained a doctorate in 鈥淢athematical and Statistical Methods for The Economic and Social Sciences鈥 in 1999 at the University of Perugia. After serving as an assistant and an associate professor, Bartolucci became a full professor at the University of Perugia in 2007. He is also on the Academic Board of the Ph.D. program in 鈥淓conometrics and Empirical Economics鈥 at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, as well as on the Academic Board of the Ph.D. program in 鈥淢athematics Informatics and Statistics鈥 at the University of Florence, jointly with the University of Perugia.
His research has been published in renowned international statistical and economic journals and presented at international conferences. Bartolucci also serves as an associate editor of the scientific journals, 鈥淪tatistical Modeling鈥 and 鈥淢etron.鈥 He published two books and conducts research on topics such as latent variable models, marginal models for categorical data or longitudinal categorical data.
