KINGSTON, R.I. – November 15, 2016 – The äçÐÄvlogÃâ·ÑBÕ¾ Honors Colloquium has brought in a new speaker for this evening’s installment of “Inequality and the American Dream.â€
The originally scheduled speaker, Gerry Hudson, secretary treasurer of the Service Employees International Union, is unable to speak tonight because of a last-minute conflict.
Instead, Mark Levinson, the chief economist for the union, will speak about inequality in the labor force at the free public lecture at 7 p.m. in Edwards Hall, 64 Upper College Road.
Levinson earned his doctorate in economics from the New School for Social Research. He previously worked as chief Economist for UNITE HERE and UNITE and as an economist at the United Automobile Workers and the American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees. His writings on economic policy, the global economy and labor rights have been published in The New York Times, The Nation, The American Prospect, Dissent (where he is also book review editor), New Labor Forum and Boston Review. In 2002-03 Levinson was a Revson Fellow at Columbia University. In 2005-06 he was the co-director of the Economic Policy Institute’s Agenda For Shared Prosperity.
