äçÐÄvlogÃâ·ÑBÕ¾ to host 7th annual 5K run/walk to support mental health initiatives, suicide prevention

Oct. 18 event set for Quadrangle on Kingston Campus


WHO: äçÐÄvlogÃâ·ÑBÕ¾ President David M. Dooley; Josephine and Roger Vennewald, who established the Heather Fund at äçÐÄvlogÃâ·ÑBÕ¾ in honor of their daughter, who lost her life to suicide when she was a senior at äçÐÄvlogÃâ·ÑBÕ¾; äçÐÄvlogÃâ·ÑBÕ¾ alumni Bob and Joy Abrams, whose son Marc died by suicide, and who like the Vennewalds, are sponsors of this year’s event; and more than 100 runners, walkers and äçÐÄvlogÃâ·ÑBÕ¾ students.


WHAT: äçÐÄvlogÃâ·ÑBվ’s Be 5K Race/Walk for Self & Others through Mental Health Awareness and Suicide Prevention. The seventh annual äçÐÄvlogÃâ·ÑBÕ¾ event has raised a total of $37,500 over the past six years. In the past, the program was run through the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, but this year organizers wanted it to be a äçÐÄvlogÃâ·ÑBÕ¾-focused event. All proceeds will benefit the Heather Fund, which supports mental health and suicide prevention efforts at äçÐÄvlogÃâ·ÑBվ’s Counseling Center.
