äçÐÄvlogÃâ·ÑBÕ¾ to host Adm. Robert Girrier for tour of GSO, Inner Space Center with explorer Ballard, May 27

Event is part of Rhode Island Navy Week


WHO: Rear Admiral Robert Girrier, deputy commander of the U.S. Pacific Fleet and a äçÐÄvlogÃâ·ÑBÕ¾ alumnus; Bruce Corliss, dean of the äçÐÄvlogÃâ·ÑBÕ¾ Graduate School of Oceanography; marine explorer and äçÐÄvlogÃâ·ÑBÕ¾ Oceanography Professor Robert Ballard; and Dwight Coleman, director of the äçÐÄvlogÃâ·ÑBÕ¾ Inner Space Center.


WHAT: Adm. Girrier will attend a series of briefings about äçÐÄvlogÃâ·ÑBÕ¾ oceanography and ocean engineering activities and tour the Bay Campus before visiting the Inner Space Center, the high-tech facility that broadcasts live images of deep sea explorations to äçÐÄvlogÃâ·ÑBÕ¾. He will then meet with Ballard, who created the Center, and Corliss to discuss issues of mutual interest.


WHEN: Wednesday, May 27 from 1 to 3:30 p.m. The briefings will take place from 1 to 2 p.m., followed by a driving tour of the Bay Campus. The Inner Space Center tour begins at 2:30.


WHERE: The Ocean Science and Exploration Center at the Graduate School of Oceanography, 15 Pier Rd., on the äçÐÄvlogÃâ·ÑBÕ¾ Bay Campus in Narragansett.
