The play takes place in Mississippi where three sisters must 鈥渓earn how to get through these real bad days.鈥 It involves Lenny, the eldest sister, who is about to hit 30, Meg in the middle who is home from an unsuccessful try at a singing career and Babe, the youngest, who just shot her husband, must overcome the legacy of self-destruction stemming from their mother鈥檚 earlier suicide. With the help of the men who love them and their own better natures, the sisters reunite with love in this always quirky, unpredictable comedy.

Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your audition to complete paperwork.
Required: Prepare a two-minute monologue. It can be a comedic or dramatic monologue that conveys the truth of an event. Do not audition with material containing foul language. Characters:
Lenny Magrath is a withdrawn, 30 yr old woman and is the oldest of the McGrath sisters and she carries most of the responsibility.
Meg Magrath: At 27 yrs of age she is the middle sister with an unsuccessful singing career.
Babe Botrelle: Youngest Magrath sister, age 24, suicidal, shot her husband
Chick Boyle: The Magrath鈥檚 29 year-old, demanding cousin, who cares deeply about everyone鈥檚 opinion of her.
Doc Porter: Meg鈥檚 30 year-old ex-boyfriend who remains a family friend and was badly injured in Hurricane Camille
Barnette Lloyde: Babe鈥檚 26 year-old lawyer who has a strong attraction for her

Auditions for dancing and singing: Sign-up in the Robert E. Will Theatre Lobby the night of each audition. All auditions will be held in G Studio.
Dance Auditions – Dec. 4, 6 p.m. Those auditioning will sign up in groups of ten for 30-minute slots. Everyone must dance sometime this evening.
Singing Auditions – Dec. 5 and 6, 7.30 p.m. – Vocal auditions are on a first-come, first-called basis. Sign-up list determines order for auditions. Actor(s) who have been called-back for Crimes of the Heart on Dec. 5 may audition for vocals on Dec. 6 at 6:30 p.m.
Required: Prepare 32 bars of two contrasting songs. One should be similar in style to Kander and Ebb鈥檚 style for Chicago. Bring sheet music in the right key. No transposing on site. No singing a cappella.
Come ready to move for your dance audition. Both men and women should be in form-fitting clothing and character shoes. Ladies, wear 2录-inch heels minimum.

Roxy Hart: female, 20-30, mezzo-soprano, a wannabe vaudevillian that kills her lover and gets sent to jail.
Velma Kelly: female, 25-40, alto, a vaudevillian and murderess who is on trial for killing her husband
William 鈥淏illy鈥 Flynn: male, 35-50, baritone, lawyer who represents both Velma and Roxy
Amos Hart: male, 30-50, baritone, Roxy鈥檚 loving, faithful husband who she ignores
Matron 鈥淢ama鈥 Morton: female, 30-50, alto, Matron of the prison that holds both Roxy and Velma
Mary Sunshine: 25-55, soprano or tenor, reporter following Roxy and Velma鈥檚 trials
Ensemble: 12-20 singers and dancers.
Rehearsals will begin in late-February.
