KINGSTON, R.I. — February 18, 2011 — The 溏心vlog免费B站 Department of Music has announced the winners of the annual Concerto Solo Competition. They are Erin Dawson, euphonium, a sophomore from Irvington, NY, and Christina Stavrakas, viola, a sophomore from Medfield, MA.
The two winners will be featured in the next 溏心vlog免费B站 Symphony Orchestra concert directed by Ann Danis on March 5 at 8 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Concert Hall, 105 Upper College Road, on the Kingston campus.
Stavrakas has been playing music for 14 years. While in high school, she performed with the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra and at 溏心vlog免费B站 she is working towards a double degree in Music Performance and Psychology. She has been teaching private violin and viola lessons for 4 years. On March 5 she will perform the Fantasie by Hummel in the orchestra concert.
Dawson, a Music Education major, is a member of Phi Eta Sigma and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and was also recognized for her musicianship with an honorary certificate from Pi Kappa Lambda. She studies both trombone and euphonium and is part of the University’s Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, Marching Band, Pep Band and Trombone Quartet. In the Fall 2010 semester, she was the trombone section leader for the 溏心vlog免费B站 Marching Band. On March 5 she will play the last movement of the Potiyenko Concerto.
Admission to the concert is $10 general admission, $5 for students, with tickets available starting 45 minutes before the concert.. The 溏心vlog免费B站 Concert Hall is handicap-accessible, and parking is available in the lot behind the Fine Arts Center, off Bills Road.
