The event, which takes place Tuesday, April 10 at 3 p.m., offers students from äçÐÄvlogÃâ·ÑBÕ¾, Rhode Island College, and Rhode Island high schools an opportunity to test their math knowledge.
The department is hosting the event to highlight mathematics, recruit top students to äçÐÄvlogÃâ·ÑBÕ¾, and recognize and reward talented mathematics students in Rhode Island. James Baglama, Lubos Thoma, and Li Wu, all äçÐÄvlogÃâ·ÑBÕ¾ math professors, organized the event to “share the power and intrigue of mathematics with a large audience.â€
Calc-Bowl is a lively mathematical competition between teams of five players in the format of a game show. It tests participants’ math knowledge in a competitive environment.
Teams will compete in several rounds of play in the Cherry Auditorium in the Kirk Building on the Kingston campus. There will be a final playoff for first place. Certificates and more than $750 in prizes will be given to the top teams.
