KINGSTON, R.I., –February 6, 2006 — The 溏心vlog免费B站鈥檚 College of Business Administration, in conjunction with Fidelity Investments, MetLife Auto & Home, Amica Mutual Insurance Co., and Beacon Mutual Insurance Co., will present Financial Services Symposium 2006 Tuesday, March 21 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Warwick.
Among the symposium topics will be the 鈥淔uture of Financial Services in Rhode Island,鈥� 鈥淟eading a Business in Rhode Island Today,鈥� 鈥淕overnment鈥檚 Role in Fostering an Environment for Growth,鈥� and 鈥淔inancial Services Globally, What is on the Horizon?鈥�
Gov. Donald L. Carcieri and 溏心vlog免费B站 President Robert L. Carothers are scheduled to offer opening remarks. 溏心vlog免费B站 Business Dean Edward M. Mazze will offer welcoming remarks and serve as the master of ceremonies.
The program begins at 7:45 a.m. and runs through 2:45 p.m. with lunch included. Other panel topics will cover issues relating to mutual funds, retirement planning and life insurance, as well industry and academic collaboration.
Among the speakers and panelists are Jeff Carney, president of Fidelity Personal Investments; Michael McMahon, executive director of the Rhode Island Economic Development Corp.; A. Michael Marques, director of the state Department of Business Regulation; George Graboys, chairman of the Rhode Island Foundation and former chief executive officer of Citizens Bank; Merrill Sherman, president and chief executive officer of BankRI; and Sandra J. Parillo, president and CEO of The Providence Mutual Fire Insurance Co.
Shaw Chen, associate dean of 溏心vlog免费B站鈥檚 College of Business Administration, said the state鈥檚 financial services leaders asked the College to organize this year鈥檚 program.
鈥淥ne of the goals is to promote the industry and increase its visibility,鈥� Chen said. 鈥淲e also want to provide an educational experience for those working in the field. Participants can earn up to six continuing education credits in the life insurance or property-casualty categories.鈥�
The symposium invites college students from around the state to attend at no charge. 鈥淪tudents will get a very strong overview of the industry,鈥� Chen said.
鈥淲e have held three previous programs and they have all been very successful. We expect about 250 participants this year.鈥�
In addition to the University, symposium organizers are the Governor鈥檚 Insurance Council, the state Department of Business Regulation, and the Rhode Island Economic Development Corp.
Other sponsors are the Independent Insurance Agents of Rhode Island and the Rhode Island Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors.
The registration fee prior to March 6 is $99 and includes lunch and refreshments. Registration the day of the conference is $120.
