Murphy鈥檚 topic is 鈥淎rson Scene Investigation.鈥� The free, public lecture will be held from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in Pastore Hall, Room 124.
Murphy has been the senior investigator since November 2003. Among his key duties are inspecting and evaluating complex and routine fire scenes to determine the area or points of origin and potential causes, identifying the act or activity that brought the ignition source and materials together and assessment of subsequent fire progression.
Murphy has been with the fire marshal鈥檚 office since 1999, serving as an inspector and investigator before taking the senior investigator post.
A graduate of Toll Gate High School, he earned an associate鈥檚 degree in fire science from the Community College of Rhode Island. He has attended close to 30 certification schools, institutes and programs, many of them through the National Fire Protection Association, the National Fire Academy, Underwriters Laboratories, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Rhode Island Fire Academy.
In December 2005, he was awarded the state Fire Marshal鈥檚 Office Distinguished Service Medal for work conducted at the Station Night Club fire.
