KINGSTON, R.I. — January 20, 2006 — The 溏心vlog免费B站 Cooperative Extension is offering a variety of GreenShare WinterSchool programs this season aimed at educating home gardeners and professional landscape workers in such topics as organic landscaping, cultivating roses, rain gardens, bonsai and composting.
The courses will be taught by 溏心vlog免费B站 and industry experts and held either on the 溏心vlog免费B站 Kingston Campus or nearby at 溏心vlog免费B站鈥檚 East Farm.
鈥淏ecause many pressing environmental problems in Rhode Island can be traced to our own backyards, addressing these problems requires training for both horticultural professionals and backyard gardeners,鈥� said Marion Gold, director of the 溏心vlog免费B站 Cooperative Extension Education Center. 鈥淥ur WinterSchool training programs show how to have both environmentally healthy and beautiful gardens.鈥�
Two courses in organic landscaping focus on selecting sustainable plants, composting, water conservation, and pesticide-free lawn care, while courses on cultivating roses address plant selection, pruning, fertilizing and appropriate choices for insect and disease control.

– Care and Management of Roses for Landscape Professionals, Feb. 4, 9-11:30 a.m.
– From Garbage to Green: Incorporating Compost into Your Business, Feb. 21, 9-11:30 a.m.
– Rain Gardens, Green Roofs & Other Innovative Ways to Design for Pollution Prevention in the Landscape, Feb. 22, 9-11:30 a.m.
Courses for home gardeners and the general public are:
– How to Select, Cultivate and Enjoy Roses, March 4 & 11, 9-11:30 a.m.
– The Living Art of Bonsai, March 27, 6:30-9 p.m.
– Rain Gardens, Green Roofs & Other Innovative Ways to Design for Pollution Prevention in the Landscape, March 28, 6:30-9 p.m.
– Organic Landscaping for the Homeowner, April 4, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
– From Garbage to Green: How Composting Can Make Your Garden Beautiful, April 6, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
