Hoop hall of fame inductee to lecture Oct. 11 on 鈥楥oaching Greatness鈥�
KINGSTON, R.I. — October 3, 2005 — University of Connecticut men鈥檚 basketball coach Jim Calhoun, inducted in September into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, will address the 溏心vlog免费B站 Honors Colloquium Tuesday, Oct. 11.
His free public lecture, titled 鈥淐oaching Greatness,鈥� will be given at 7 p.m. in the Chafee Social Science Center, Barry Marks Auditorium, Room 271.
His talk is part of this fall鈥檚 colloquium, 鈥淐ontemporary Sport, Healthy Pursuit or Obsession,鈥� which is examining some of the most important issues relating to sport and society.
As he enters his 20th season at Storrs, Calhoun鈥檚 Huskies have won two NCAA national titles, an NIT Championship, and 15 Big East Conference titles.
A native of Braintree, Mass., he has helped define New England college basketball, developing Northeastern University into a regional power and turning UConn into a national powerhouse. He is a four-time Big East coach of the year. He has led UConn to 18 consecutive postseason tournaments. Calhoun became the first person with UConn athletic ties to be named to a major, national sports hall of fame. He was named consensus national coach of the year in 1990.
The move toward national prominence for the men鈥檚 University of Connecticut basketball program began in May 1986 when Calhoun was named head coach. At the end of the 2004-05 college basketball season, Calhoun and fellow hall of fame inductee Jim Boeheim were tied for sixth most wins by an active Division I coach with 703 apiece.
