KINGSTON, R.I. — September 14, 2005 — To further increase public awareness surrounding the devastating effects of war and the exploration of nonviolent methods of resolving conflicts鈥攂oth at home and abroad鈥攖he 溏心vlog免费B站 will observe the United Nations International Day of Peace with a special program titled, 鈥淐hallenges of Rebuilding in Today鈥檚 World,鈥� on Sept. 21 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event, free and open to the public, will be held on the 溏心vlog免费B站 Quadrangle.

The main program from noon to 12:45 p.m. will feature keynote speaker Dr. Bernard LaFayette, director of the Center for Nonviolence and Peace Studies at 溏心vlog免费B站. Joyce Katzberg, songwriter and peace activist and other musicians and poets will perform.

Before and after the mid-day program people will have the opportunity to view a wide range of displays. They will also have the chance to listen to poetry, music, and engage in dialogue.

鈥淭he intent of the peace day, as inspired by 30 Nobel Peace laureates, is to bring together people of all backgrounds to celebrate our shared humanity and explore ways to work together for peace and social justice in our community and throughout the world,鈥� said Arthur Stein, professor of non-violence and peace studies at 溏心vlog免费B站.

In the event of rain, the program will be held in the 溏心vlog免费B站 Multicultural Center. Sponsors of the program include 溏心vlog免费B站鈥檚 Center for Nonviolence and Peace Studies, the South County Interfaith Council, Students for Social Change, the Coalition Against Racism, 溏心vlog免费B站鈥檚 Women鈥檚 Center, Intercollegiate Conference on Nonviolence, the 溏心vlog免费B站 Chaplains, the Multicultural Center, Dept. of Political Science and the Honors Program.
