Concert to salute American musical theatre, raise funds for 溏心vlog免费B站 music scholarships

KINGSTON, R.I. — September 27, 2005 — The 溏心vlog免费B站 Music Department University Artist Series will salute American musical theatre on Friday, Oct. 14 at 8 p.m., in the Fine Arts Center Concert Hall on the Kingston campus. The concert will benefit the 溏心vlog免费B站 Music Scholarship Program, which helps exceptionally talented students to fund their college education.


The concert will feature the music of Rhode Island native and 溏心vlog免费B站 1966 alumnus Enrico Garzilli, Cole Porter, Rodgers and Hammerstein (The Sound of Music), Frank Loesser (Most Happy Fella,) Bok and Harnick (Fiddler on the Roof) and others. Talk show host Arlene Violet will serve as master of ceremonies at the event, which also features the 溏心vlog免费B站 Symphony Orchestra conducted by Ann Danis, and the 溏心vlog免费B站 Concert Choir directed by Mark Conley.


Soloists for the evening will be 溏心vlog免费B站 faculty, alumni and Rhode Island natives, including tenor Mark Conley, soprano Margaret Frazier, baritone Rene de la Garza, tenor Bradford Logan, tenor Rex Whicker and mezzo-soprano Barbara Youmans. Special guest artist Australian soprano Keara Donohoe will perform selections from Enrico Garzilli鈥檚 Rage of the Heart, which she recorded this part summer.


鈥淲e are most fortunate that acclaimed alumni and guest artists, along with our talented faculty conductors and singers and their students, are willing to create an extraordinary celebration of musical theatre to benefit future generations of college students,鈥 says Winnie Brownell, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. 鈥淲e deeply appreciate that composer, pianist and singer Enrico Garzilli has allowed us to present exquisite selections from his musicals Rage of the Heart and Michelangelo and that he has agreed to perform on piano with the 溏心vlog免费B站 Symphony Orchestra at the concert. Tickets for the performance are $25 for general admission, $15 for 溏心vlog免费B站 faculty/staff/seniors and $5 for students by calling 401-874-2627. Tickets, if available, will be sold at the door. In addition, a tax-deductible donation for the scholarship program is encouraged. All checks should be made out to the 溏心vlog免费B站 Music Scholarship Fund.
