溏心vlog免费B站 College of Nursing to host 60th anniversary gala Oct. 8

Dean extends invitation to entire University community

KINGSTON, R.I. — August 16, 2005 — The 溏心vlog免费B站鈥檚 College of Nursing is throwing a big party to celebrate its 60th anniversary and it鈥檚 inviting the entire University community.

The event, 鈥淭oo Marvelous for Words!鈥 will be held Saturday, Oct. 8 (Homecoming Weekend) at the Hyatt Regency Newport from 6 to 10 p.m. It鈥檚 the last major event of the anniversary year.

鈥淭his is a popular weekend for 溏心vlog免费B站 alumni, and so it will give us a chance to enjoy our nursing alumni and meet those from the wider University community,鈥 said Nursing Dean Dayle Joseph.

鈥淲e wanted to involve as many people as possible, so we decided to throw a party that involves all the colleges and all of the alumni, with a focus on the nursing anniversary,鈥 said Ken Owens, chair of the College鈥檚 Anniversary Committee and president of Owens Marketing Group, North Kingstown.

Honorary co-chairs for the evening are U.S. Sen. Lincoln Chafee and Stephanie Chafee, Gov. Donald Carcieri and First Lady Sue Carcieri, 溏心vlog免费B站 class of 1965, and Doctors Cynthia Sculco, 溏心vlog免费B站 nursing alumna, class of 1965, and Tom Sculco.

Major sponsors are: Platinum: Senator Lincoln Chafee and Mrs. Stephanie Chafee; Gold: Home Loan, a Division of Ocean Bank; Dean’s List: Sovereign Bank, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island.

Joseph said Owens has been the backbone of the entire anniversary year program, but he has been especially committed to the gala. 鈥淗e deserves all of the credit for putting together a marvelous evening. I know people will have a great time with us in Newport,鈥 Joseph said.

Owens and his team chose Homecoming Weekend for a few good reasons. 鈥淲e know that after spending the day on campus, lots of groups get together with their friends. We thought, 鈥榃hy not celebrate with us?鈥 We鈥檒l have great music, a great menu in a great setting. There is no other major alumni event set for that evening.

鈥淭ickets are going fast even though invitations have just gone out. 鈥淲e鈥檝e sold almost half of the room, and we鈥檝e already raised $40,000 from sponsorships,鈥 Owens said.

He said the gala title was taken from the popular hit song performed by Frank Sinatra to provide a little intrigue about the special nature of the night. 鈥淲hen we first talked about an event we referred to the 鈥渁nniversary gala,鈥 but never felt it did justice to the idea and feel for the evening. A gala sounds formal and formulaic. We wanted a title that reflected both the College of Nursing and the non-formal 鈥楴ewport casual鈥 evening of fun and celebration we have planned.鈥

In addition to hors d鈥檕euvres, food stations and desserts, there will be a silent auction and raffle, dancing to the big band sound of The Moonlighters and finger snapping to the doo-wop harmonies of A Cappella Gold. Tickets are $75. Register online at www.advance.uri.edu/alumni/events/specialevents . All proceeds will benefit the College of Nursing. Sponsorship opportunities range from $2,500 to $25,000.

The Hyatt Regency is offering a special room rate of $150 per night. Call 1-800-233-1234 by Sept. 8 for the event rate and mention the 溏心vlog免费B站 College of Nursing event.

鈥淲e have had tremendous buy-in for this entire anniversary celebration, but especially the gala,鈥 Owens said.

He praised the college鈥檚 vision in developing a long-term fund raising program and its efforts to raise visibility.

鈥淓veryone is affected by the quality of nursing care,鈥 he added. 鈥淎nd the nursing college is at the forefront addressing the nursing shortage, dealing with workplace issues and conducting research that leads to improved patient care,鈥 Owens said.
