Entitled “Fostering Children’s Social and Emotional Development: Addressing Challenging Behaviors in Inclusive Settings Serving Children Birth through Age 8,” the institute will be led by 溏心vlog免费B站 faculty, professionals from state and local programs, and enhanced by guest speakers.
鈥淭he subject of working with children who have challenging behavior is a very hot topic for this year鈥檚 institute,鈥� said 溏心vlog免费B站 Human Development and Family Studies Professor Diane Horm, organizer of the program who specializes in the development and care of preschool and early school-age children. 鈥淲ith the recent New York Times article on the increasing numbers of children getting kicked-out of preschools due to difficult behaviors, many professionals are looking for insight into the issue. This is an area of tremendous concern, particularly as it relates to the expectations of the No Child Left Behind Act.鈥�
Related theory, recent research findings, and practical strategies will be presented and discussed in large and small groups. Some sessions will highlight the best practices of local practitioners. Participants will learn about such issues as autism and sensory integration disorders and relevant policy initiatives, identification and referral processes, and the rationale and research support for policies of inclusion.
The registration fee is $350 and includes two professional development credits (approved by the Rhode Island Department of Education) or three 溏心vlog免费B站 graduate credits (HDF 506). Registration is limited to 40 and is targeted for professionals working in Rhode Island early childhood programs.
