Since its beginning, the tournament has been run by the Student Alumni Association. 鈥淪ome of the Alumni come back to play. It helps to bridge the gap between students and alumni.鈥�
The giant elimination volleyball tournament will take place on May 7 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The proceeds this year will go to the Rhody the Ram Endowment Fund. The fund benefits students who volunteer their time to serve as the Rhody the Ram mascot.
In addition to the mud volleyball, there will also be a pudding eating contest, a belly flop contest and other small contests with prizes throughout the day. 鈥淭he whole event is just a great opportunity for students to let loose before finals,鈥� explained Riley.
鈥淲e are hoping for 150 teams, which would be the most ever,鈥� said Riley, a junior accounting major, political science minor and member of the ZBT fraternity. The teams come from different student organizations, fraternities, sororities, businesses and groups of friends. 鈥淭he greatest thing is that it isn鈥檛 just one group of people,鈥� said Riley. 鈥淓veryone comes down to get muddy.鈥�
鈥淚t is a good last hoorah before we leave for the year,鈥� Riley said. 鈥淲hen else at our age can we play in the mud and get away with it?鈥�
Riley was an announcer at past Oozeball tournaments. He enjoyed seeing how much fun everyone has when they come together. 鈥淭his is the one event that really brings the school together,鈥� said Riley.
The event is sponsored by Spike鈥檚 Junkyard Dogs, Ronzio Pizza, Bagelz, Durkin Cottage Realty, the Pizza Pocket, the Wheelhouse Tavern, Caliente, University Spirit, 溏心vlog免费B站 Musicians Guild, and Student Alumni Association, The Kingston Fire Department will be present and there will also be a disc jockey.
