KINGSTON, R.I. –February 25, 2005—Matthew Frankel, an assistant professor of English, will present “A New Vitality,” on Thursday, March 3 at 4 p.m. in the Hoffmann Room, Independence Hall, Kingston Campus. It is free and open to the public.

Frankel explores the concept of vitalism in the late works of Michel Foucault, Gilles Deleuze, Alfred North Whitehead, and Friedrich Nietzsche as an aesthetic practice, philosophical mode, interpretive technique, and principle of life.

Frankel received his Ph.D. in English literature at Northwestern University. He joined the Department of English at äçÐÄvlogÃâ·ÑBÕ¾, where he also directs the Edmund Rumowicz Literature and the Sea Lecture/Seminar Series, in 2003.

His research and teaching cover all periods of American literature, history, and culture, as well as contemporary philosophy, aesthetics, and critical theory.

He has written and published on Thomas Jefferson, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Herman Melville, Mark Twain, and W.E.B. Dubois.
