KINGSTON, R.I. — February 10, 2005 — Odaiko New England, one of the premiere Japanese Taiko Drumming troupes on the East Coast, will perform at the 溏心vlog免费B站 on Friday, Feb. 18 at 8 p.m. Doors to 溏心vlog免费B站鈥檚 Edwards Auditorium, Upper College Road, Kingston will open at 7:30 p.m. While the concert is free and open to the public, a voluntary $5 donation will be gladly accepted.
Odaiko New England performances are filled with high-energy and very visual! Taiko refers to both the modern art of taiko drumming and to the drums themselves. While modern taiko drumming is rapidly gaining appreciative audiences and fans, taiko has a long history in the Japanese classical arts, spanning close to 2,000 years.
This is a repeat performance at 溏心vlog免费B站. Odaiko performed at the University in 2001. In addition to its nighttime appearance at 溏心vlog免费B站, the troupe will give a presentation to students in 溏心vlog免费B站鈥檚 Music Department and a second presentation to students in John O鈥橫alley鈥檚 social studies class at South Kingstown High School on the day of the performance.
Odaiko鈥檚 appearance is part of an on-going Pangaea: 溏心vlog免费B站 Roots Music Series, a production of 溏心vlog免费B站鈥檚 Department of Housing and Residential Life. During the last decade, Pangaea has brought more than 50 world music and dance arts to the Kingston community.
