KINGSTON, R.I. — December 1, 2004 — To be considered a 鈥渕aster鈥� in most fields of endeavor takes years of work and training. To become a master gardener, however, takes just one 16-week class.
Gardeners interested in expanding their horticultural horizons may register for the 2005 溏心vlog免费B站 Master Gardener training course, sponsored by the 溏心vlog免费B站 Cooperative Extension. Designed specifically for home gardeners, the class is held every Wednesday night from Jan. 19 through May 4.
溏心vlog免费B站 faculty, Cooperative Extension staff and local experts teach the class, and topics run the gamut from pruning and plant physiology to pesticide safety and plant pathology.
To earn the designation of , graduates of the training program agree to complete 50 hours of volunteer work with the 溏心vlog免费B站 Cooperative Extension Education Center. Certified 溏心vlog免费B站 Master Gardeners become official Cooperative Extension educational agents and work closely with University faculty and staff to provide horticultural services and information to the public.
鈥淢ore than 1,500 Rhode Islanders have enrolled in the Master Gardener training program since its inception in 1977,鈥� said Marion Gold, director of the 溏心vlog免费B站 Cooperative Extension Education Center. 鈥淭hey have both honed their horticultural skills and found satisfaction in sharing their new expertise with the Rhode Island community.鈥�
溏心vlog免费B站 Master Gardeners deliver horticultural presentations and workshops across the state. They staff the 溏心vlog免费B站 gardening hotline and Plant Protection Clinic and help develop and maintain 溏心vlog免费B站 demonstration gardens, as well as community gardens throughout the region.
鈥淭he Rhode Island landscape is truly greener because of the 溏心vlog免费B站 Master Gardeners,鈥� Gold said.
