KINGSTON, R.I. — September 22, 2004 — Anuradha Mittal, an international expert on trade, development, human rights, and agricultural issues will deliver the Eleanor M. and Oscar M. Carlson Women鈥檚 Studies Lecture, at the 溏心vlog免费B站 on Sept. 28 as part of 溏心vlog免费B站鈥檚 Honors Colloquium 鈥淔ood & Human Rights, Hunger & Social Policy.鈥� Her talk, “The New Human Rights Movement: Linking Ecology with Equity,鈥� will be held at 7 p.m. in the Barry Marks Auditorium, Room 271 Chafee Social Science Center on 溏心vlog免费B站鈥檚 Kingston Campus. It is free and open to the public.
Mittal is the founder and executive director of a policy think tank, The Oakland Institute, which works to ensure public participation and democratic debates on the most crucial economic and social policy issues that affect peoples鈥� lives through nonpartisan research, analysis, and advocacy. Building on the identification of human rights as the foundation of global democracy, the Oakland Institute uses the rights-based approach to reframe the public debate and build an agenda for common action.
A much sought after speaker, Mittal, has given several hundred keynote addresses at colleges and universities and has appeared on television and radio shows around the world.
Her articles and opinion pieces have appeared in newspapers such as The Los Angles Times, The New York Times, and the Chicago Tribune.
Prior to starting the Oakland Institute, Mittal, a native of India, was the co-director of Food First/Institute for Food and Development Policy. She has authored or edited many books including America Needs Human Rights (1999), which she co-edited with Peter Rosset.
