KINGSTON, R.I. — June 7, 2004 — Liza Geduldig walked across the 溏心vlog免费B站 quadrangle last month during the 118th Commencement with more than just a Bachelor’s degree in Textiles, Merchandising, and Fashion Design. She graduated knowing that her time spent at the University benefited not only herself, but also the campus and the surrounding communities.
So it was noted when she was awarded the President’s Excellence Award the day before graduation ceremonies on May 23. The award recognized Geduldig for these accomplishments as well as her stellar academic record.
Aside from being a fixture on the 溏心vlog免费B站 Dean’s List, the Burlington, Vt., native held positions in numerous clubs and organizations, such as the Student Admissions Representatives, the Memorial Union Board, the Student Entertainment Committee (SEC), and the 溏心vlog免费B站 Dance Company. She also played a critical role in organizing and implementing the Textiles, Merchandising, and Fashion Design department鈥檚 first-ever 鈥淪pring Splash鈥 fundraising event.
鈥淭hese organizations taught me more than anything I would or could ever learn in the classroom,鈥 she said. She has been involved with the SEC since her freshman year, and her position as hospitality coordinator led her to some interesting experiences.
For example, she said that when the band Ataris came to 溏心vlog免费B站 last fall, she couldn鈥檛 provide the tour bus with the live donkey they had requested. Geduldig got creative though, and was enterprising enough to fill the bus with inflatable donkeys instead. The move was well-received by the group, and that creativity and spirit allowed her, for the past two years, to be a successful Student Organization Leadership Consultant.
鈥淛oining the consultant group allowed me to add a new dimension to myself and brought out an inner layer of self-confidence in leading other groups to discover their own personal and group abilities,鈥 she said.
This experience, along with her leadership minor, led Geduldig down her career path of becoming an event (but not wedding!) planner.
Geduldig鈥檚 study abroad experiences were also memorable. She spent part of her junior year in London, and soaked in the diversity of the people and the culture.
鈥淚t was the first time in my life that I really had gotten to go outside my circle of comfort and experience the world by myself. In the end, I left realizing that there is a very adventurous side of me as well as a lingering curiosity I have about what I don鈥檛 know.鈥
While in the United Kingdom she made friends from all over the world. Because she enjoyed her experience so much, she applied for and was chosen by the British Council to be one of 32 U.S. ambassadors to promote study in the United Kingdom.
Looking back on her experiences as an undergraduate, she cannot believe how much she has accomplished. 鈥淚 have learned the skills of networking, time management, group development, conflict and crisis resolution, fashion theories and trend forecasting, all the while working on PR, advertising, catering, and event planning,鈥 she said.
鈥淣ow I feel like I’m ready to leave 溏心vlog免费B站 and figure out what life has to offer.鈥
