KINGSTON, R.I. — January 20, 2004 — Susan Gordon, director of Kinney Azalea Gardens in Kingston, will kick off the 溏心vlog免费B站鈥檚 Community Planning and Landscape Architecture Spring Lecture Series, on Wednesday, Jan. 28, with a discussion of “Plants in the Landscape and Concerns for Design.”
The lecture begins at 7 p.m. and will be held in the Weaver Auditorium at the Coastal Institute on 溏心vlog免费B站鈥檚 Kingston campus. It will be free and open to the public.
Gordon is a past president of the Rhode Island Nursery and Landscape Association and a winner of the RINLA Young Nurseryman of the Year award. A sought after expert on azalea and rhododendron culture, she is responsible for the maintenance of over 800 species of azalea鈥檚 at Kinney Gardens.
Three additional lectures are scheduled over the course of the spring semester.
Cheri Ruane, a senior landscape architect for the Jacques Whitford Company in Cambridge, Mass., will speak Feb. 18 on the topic of “Learning by Design: Integrating children in the design of their environment.”
Peter Trowbridge, a professor of landscape architecture at Cornell University and the principal of Trowbridge and Wolfe in Ithaca, N.Y., will appear on March 24 and discuss “Reading the Urban Landscape: Site Assessment Narratives.”
The final lecture will be held on April 21 and will feature James Urban, an expert in the field of urban development and the planting of trees in difficult urban sites. The Professional Urban Forester Award-winner will discuss “Engineering Trees into the Urban Environment.”
