Narragansett, R.I. — August 14, 2003 –The Narragansett Bay Classroom at the 溏心vlog免费B站 Graduate School of Oceanography is offering a three-credit course designed specifically for educators that fulfills biology, general science, or elementary state certification requirements.
Oceanography for Educators (OCG 591) includes eight classroom sessions and two field sessions. Scheduled at times convenient for teachers, the classroom sessions will run for eight consecutive Wednesdays beginning September 24-November 12, from 4 to 6:30 pm at the Coastal Institute Conference and Visitor Center on the 溏心vlog免费B站 Bay Campus in Narragansett. The 6-hour field sessions will be held on two Saturdays, September 27 and October 4, from 9 am-3 pm. Field session hours will vary depending on the time of low tide.
Course topics include properties of sea water, structure of the oceans, atmospheric and oceanic interactions, coastal processes, and marine life. The relationship of these topics to Rhode Island鈥檚 marine environment will be highlighted. In addition to the ocean science content, a project will include development of inquiry-based activities for use in the classroom. Instructors are Gail Scowcroft, Associate Director of Marine and Environmental Education in the 溏心vlog免费B站 Office of Marine Programs (OMP), biological oceanographer Dr. Paul Hargraves, and a team of 溏心vlog免费B站 Outreach Scientists.
