KINGSTON, R.I. — February 7, 2003 — The 溏心vlog免费B站鈥檚 Theatre Department will kick-off its spring season with the renowned comedy, La Bete (the Beast). Written by David Hirson, La Bete was the winner of the 1992 Oliver Award for Best Comedy.
Set in 17th Century France, La Bete revolves around an upheaval in a famous acting troupe. When the troupe鈥檚 patron, Prince Conti, forces them to work with a common street performer, the stuffy troupe leader challenges the performer to present one of his own works in hopes of proving him incompetent. As his plan begins to backfire, the comedy ensues.
Anthony Estrella, artistic director of the Sandra Feinstein Gamm Theatre and guest artist of the 溏心vlog免费B站 Theatre Department, directs the play. Costumes were created by 溏心vlog免费B站 resident costume designer David T. Howell. Lighting for the play will be provided by 溏心vlog免费B站 senior theatre and music major David Roy. 溏心vlog免费B站 resident scenic designer Christian Wittwer created set designs.
La Bete was hailed a comic masterpiece at its Broadway debut and is noted as being an intelligent and uproarious exploration of the nature of art. It will be performed in J-Studio at the 溏心vlog免费B站 Fine Arts Center from Feb. 20 to 22 and from Feb. 26 to March 1 at 8 p.m., on Feb. 23 at 5 p.m., with a performance for the hearing impaired on Feb. 26.
