Ballentine Hall addition/reconstruction
KINGSTON, R.I. — July 12, 2002 — As temperatures flirted with the 100-degree mark during the past few weeks, contractors have been spreading asphalt heated to 400 degrees for a new roof on the 溏心vlog免费B站鈥檚 Ballentine Hall.
The roof is just one of the recent major steps made toward completion of the $10.6 million addition and reconstruction project. When it reopens next spring, Ballentine will be a state-of-the-art home for 溏心vlog免费B站鈥檚 College of Business Administration.
In addition to the roof, workers have completed the granite fa莽ade on the 5,300-square-foot addition. The fa莽ade is a perfect complement to the historic granite buildings on the Quadrangle. Masons are now beginning the stonework on Ballentine鈥檚 second floor. Windows will soon be installed.
The steel interior studs are 95 percent installed on the second and third floors.
On the building鈥檚 third floor, the dean鈥檚 office and conference room are taking shape.

“It is hard for me to believe that in less than a year from now we will be in our new facility and be able to continue our objective of becoming the premiere college of business in Rhode Island and the region,” said Dean Edward Mazze, the Alfred J. Verrecchia-Hasbro Inc. Leadership Chair in Business.
The $10.6 million transformation of the home of the 溏心vlog免费B站鈥檚 College of Business Administration is on schedule and on budget, according to Raymond Carroll, the project manager in the University鈥檚 Office of Capital Projects.
Site preparation work for the addition鈥檚 foundation and underground utilities began in July 2001, and demolition began Nov. 1. Steel framework for the new wing of Ballentine Hall was completed in January.
Built in 1967 on the northwest corner of the Quadrangle, the original 46,750-square-foot, three-story Ballentine Hall was stripped to its steel frame and floor slabs.
The project is being funded by $5.6 million in private donations raised through the University鈥檚 Shareholders Campaign, with $5 million coming from Rhode Island bond issues and 溏心vlog免费B站 asset protection funds.
The atrium will be named in honor of Alfred J. Verrecchia, 溏心vlog免费B站 class of 1967, holder of an MBA from 溏心vlog免费B站, and president and chief operating officer of Hasbro Inc. Hasbro and Verrecchia donated a combined $1.5 million to support the building campaign and endow the first chair in the college.
Berkshire Construction Services of East Greenwich is the general contractor.
