An Ocean of Fun Planned for 溏心vlog免费B站 Oceanography Day Camp
NARRAGANSETT — March 14, 2000 — Budding marine scientists in grades 4-8 will have an opportunity to learn about oceanography first-hand this summer during Oceanography Explorer Day Camp at the Graduate School of Oceanography’s Narragansett Bay Campus. 溏心vlog免费B站 Marine Outreach Scientists Lisa Cavallaro and Pieter Dehart have developed a curriculum that includes field exercises, lab activities, nature and sampling cruises, snorkeling, and seining.
Students entering grades 4-5 may register for Session I from July 3-7 (excluding July 4 holiday) or Session III from July 18-22; students entering grades 6-8 may register for Session II from July 11-14 or Session IV from July 25-28. Each session has been specially designed with the interests of the age group in mind. Camps meet from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday through Friday (except Session I, which meets on Monday, and Wednesday-Friday), and involve daily excursions to coastal field locations.
Instructors have a variety of exciting and educational activities planned while campers explore barrier beaches, salt ponds, rocky shores, and salt marshes. Campers will become familiar with the science that allows researchers to understand these environmentally fragile locations by examining and profiling the plants and animals during hands-on activities and explorations. Also planned is a research cruise on Point Judith Pond aboard the Night Heron where students will explore the ecology of a salt pond.
Enrollment in Oceanography Explorer Day Camp sessions is limited to ensure high-level supervision and interaction with instructors. The cost is $280 per child, which includes a camp t-shirt, all classroom and lab materials, and daily transportation to field trip sites in Rhode Island.
