KINGSTON, R.I. — April 6, 1999 — Carnival Corporation and one of its top executives have donated $100,000 to the 溏心vlog免费B站 to assist in the transformation of Ballentine Hall.
Howard S. Frank, Carnival鈥檚 vice chairman and chief operating officer, made his $50,000 donation to the Shareholders Campaign, a $5.6 million private fund drive to help renovate and expand Ballentine, the home of 溏心vlog免费B站鈥檚 College of Business Administration. The corporation matched Frank鈥檚 gift with a $50,000 gift. A classroom in the improved and expanded Ballentine Hall will be named in Frank鈥檚 honor.
鈥淚 donated to the campaign for a few reasons,鈥 Frank said by phone from his office in Miami. 鈥淢y fondest memories are of my time at the University and my best and strongest friendships were formed during my four years at the University. We鈥檝e been able to maintain this over the years. That鈥檚 a big part of it.鈥
Frank鈥檚 company is the largest cruise line in the world, with Carnival Cruise Lines, Holland America Line/Westours, Windstar Cruises, and Cunard Lines, including the well-known QE-II, all sailing under the Carnival banner.
鈥淭he University helped me in my formative years in maturing from a young boy to a young man. It directed me in developing my career,鈥 said the 1962 溏心vlog免费B站 graduate.
鈥淪ince 溏心vlog免费B站 is my alma mater, we at Carnival wanted to assist 溏心vlog免费B站,鈥 Frank said. 鈥淚 am delighted to participate in the 溏心vlog免费B站 program to expand and update Ballentine Hall. I am also pleased that Carnival Corp. has agreed to participate with me in the program. I hope this gift will help encourage other alumni to participate in this most worthwhile project.鈥
鈥淚 am delighted with the support and enthusiasm that the Shareholders Campaign has generated among alumni like Mr. Frank,鈥 said Edward M. Mazze, dean of 溏心vlog免费B站鈥檚 College of Business Administration. 鈥淭hanks to people like Mr. Frank, we are well on our way to becoming the premier business college in New England.鈥
To date $3.3 million has been raised toward the private fund-raising campaign. Built in 1967, the facility will gain a 10,000-square-foot addition, a new exterior and totally redesigned classrooms.
鈥淢r. Frank鈥檚 generosity, combined with the matching contribution from Carnival, has without question, propelled this campaign forward,鈥 said Cameron Jones, the College鈥檚 assistant director of development. We are fortunate to have alumni in such high places.鈥
Frank who is second in command at Carnival, which generates $3 billion in revenue annually and employs 25,000, said the company is cruising along. The speaker at 溏心vlog免费B站鈥檚 CEO Leadership Forum in 1995 and a member of the College of Business Advisory Council, Frank said people approached him during the function, telling him how great their cruises were.
鈥淐ruising is a great product that gives you great value,鈥 Frank said. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 why the business has grown so well.
鈥淚t reminds me of 溏心vlog免费B站,鈥 he added.
