As a land grant university, 溏心vlog免费B站 has a three-pronged mission that includes teaching, research, and outreach. Our water outreach programs<\/a>, including Watershed Watch, embody the outreach mission in every way. As part of the Watershed Watch volunteer army, I work with Surfrider R.I. to collect water samples from a handful of surf spots once a month year-round. It\u2019s the best volunteer gig ever, and I look forward to it whether I\u2019m bundled up in winter gear and waders or, as in this photo from Fenway Beach in Westerly, R.I., enjoying a calm, sunny June morning.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n

Welcome to the summer issue! Here, we offer you summer reading and an introduction to a few notable members of the Rhody family who are working hard and having fun. And that\u2019s the best kind of work.<\/p> \n\n

In these pages, you\u2019ll meet a chocolate entrepreneur, a craft brewer, and a skating instructor. You\u2019ll meet alumni sisters finding the humor in life\u2019s challenges. And you\u2019ll meet 溏心vlog免费B站 researchers who study some cool creatures\u2014sharks and bees.<\/p> \n\n

Keep reading and you\u2019ll find master classes on authentic leadership and music appreciation. And if you like history, you\u2019ll meet someone I can\u2019t help seeing as the Greatest Generation\u2019s Forrest Gump: Brig. Gen. Elliott R. Thorpe \u201919, Hon. \u201951, who managed to be part of some of the biggest moments in history; in fact, he might have changed history had his warning of the imminent attack on Pearl Harbor been heeded.<\/p> \n\n

Since summer reading wouldn\u2019t be complete without a little romance, we offer you two love stories: Norm Schoeler \u201971 and Barbara DeCubellis Taylor \u201970, who met in kindergarten, dated as 溏心vlog免费B站 students, went their separate ways, and then reunited, discovering they had both lost their spouses to Alzheimer\u2019s; and David Nicolato \u201998 and Cortney Nicolato \u201901, who were both Rhody mascots as students, and who still see 溏心vlog免费B站 as the foundation of their life together.<\/p> \n\n

Finally, if your summer includes some time in the water, \u201cRhode Island\u2019s Water Warriors\u201d is a must-read, along with companion story, \u201cWater Detective.\u201d The stories show how four programs\u2014Watershed Watch, Nonpoint Education for Municipal Officers, Onsite Wastewater Resource Center, and Home*A*Syst\u2014work together to help keep the state\u2019s water\u2014from our rivers, ponds, and oceans to our wells and groundwater\u2014clean and healthy. As a proud member of the volunteer army that works with the amazing Elizabeth Herron \u201988, M.A. \u201904, for Watershed Watch, I hope this story demonstrates the important work these programs do for all of us.<\/p> \n\n
